Jeff was actually one of the first authors I interviewed for a magazine back when the Southern Reach books first came out (and back when BuzzFeed had a books section): https://www.buzzfeed.com/lincolnmichel/jeff-vandermeer
So cool! I saw him speak this year at the Key West Literary Fest and really found his speech compelling, to the point that I’d like to rewatch it, but I don’t think there was a replay. Also like his talks on how the book Hyperobjects influenced him.
Next time you should record the zoom so we can watch it.
I was at the seminar, too. I just listened to Jeff's speech again for an essay I'm working on, and I saw your comment here and thought I'd pop it in the chat. Lincoln, thanks for a great interview!
Superb interview. Big fan of Jeff's, even though sometimes his work gets a bit too experimental (I'm looking at you, Dead Astronauts). Southern Reach is superb and I'm looking forward to reading Absolution, and I'm fairly certain I'm going to have to purchase those 10th Anniversary Editions because those book covers are divine.
Wow! So cool that you got to interview VanderMeer. Love his books and his whole vibe and rewilding project.

Hi Charlotte, here's an audio transcript of Jeff's keynote from Key West: https://www.kwls.org/audio/water-lives-here/.

Thank you!
You're welcome!
Yeah, what a cool opportunity, for both interviews (old and new).
I read Annihilation 3 years ago, but just revisited it and am finishing the trilogy in anticipation of Absolution. I'm loving it so far.

So grateful for this piece. Absolutely love Jeff Vandermeer’s work, and how he talks about it.
Great interview - thanks for this. Just finished rereading the trilogy and just started Absolution. Brilliant stuff.
